About Role

For an Indian Company (A large domestic corporate, Port and Warehouse) based in Mumbai, the Head of Supply Chain & Logistics is a high-impact role. Unlike an MNC where global protocols are often pre-set, this role requires a "builder" mindset—someone who can optimise local complexities, manage diverse Indian vendors, and handle the unique logistical challenges of the Mumbai/Maharashtra corridor (Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust - JNPT, Bhiwandi warehousing hubs, and urban congestion).


Job Description:

The Head of Supply Chain & Logistics will own the end-to-end value chain—from procurement and manufacturing planning to warehousing and last-mile delivery. Reporting to the COO or CEO, you will be responsible for creating a lean, agile, and cost-effective supply chain that supports aggressive business scaling.

 

  • Managing the distribution centres pan-India.

  • Building and managing a robust and agile transportation network to ensure timely distribution.

  • Managing the inventory, pilferages, scrap, etc., and ensuring complete transparency.

  • Building a world-class quality system by bringing in the best practices suited to the organisation's requirements.

  • Establishment of Warehouses from location selection to operations.• Establish and train the team on the WH operations end-to-end.

  • Expertise in WH Layout design, material Handling Equipment planning for optimum space utilisation.

  • Monitoring Stock Count Process to ensure Stock accuracy - Cyclic, Daily, Quarterly, and Half-yearly counts at WHs.

  • Good knowledge of the latest technology and innovation in the area of Supply chain.

  • Evaluate SCM budgets periodically, including manpower planning initiatives, and ensure adherence to planned expenses.

  • Appointing, negotiating and monitoring of Transporters to achieve seamless and cost-effective movement of consignments for timely deliveries.

  • Monitor Transporters Performance related to Cost, Quality, Lead time and service levels.

  • Interfacing with cross-functional departments for ascertaining procurement plans and managing the storage optimisation in the warehouses

  • Ensure Regulatory Compliance as per the requirements of various States wherever the Operations are present

  • Liaising with regulatory authorities as per the requirements of various States wherever the Operations are present.

 

Core Responsibility:
  • End-to-End Orchestration: Overhaul procurement, demand planning, inventory management, and distribution networks.

  • Logistics & Distribution: Manage primary and secondary freight, ensuring timely delivery while minimising transit damage and costs.

  • Warehouse Management: Oversee large-scale DC (Distribution Centre) operations, particularly in key hubs like Bhiwandi or Panvel, focusing on automation and space optimisation.

  • Vendor Ecosystem: Build and maintain a resilient network of local and national suppliers, focusing on "Quality at Source" and credit-term negotiations.

  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure 100% adherence to GST norms, E-way bills, and Octroi-related historical complexities in the Maharashtra region.

 

Job Specification:
  • Location: Mumbai (Corporate Office in BKC; frequent visits to Bhiwandi/Taloja hubs).

  • Experience: 15–20 years in Supply Chain, with at least 5 years in a leadership role within a large Indian corporate or high-growth startup.

  • Reporting To: Chief Operating Officer (COO) or Managing Director (MD).

  • Salary Benchmarks:

    • Range: ₹50 Lakhs to ₹60 Lakhs (Fixed) + Performance Bonuses.

    • Variables: Often includes a "Cost-Savings Bonus" based on logistics optimisation.


Qualifications:
  • Education:

    • MBA in Supply Chain/Operations from a premier institute (NITIE/IIM/SPJIMR).

    • A Bachelor’s in Engineering (Mechanical/Production) or Commerce is preferred.

  • Certifications: CSCP (Certified Supply Chain Professional) or Six Sigma Black Belt is highly desirable.

  • Local Knowledge: Deep understanding of the Maharashtra logistics landscape, including port operations (JNPT) and regional transporter networks.


Essential Skills:
  • Cost Optimisation: Mastery of "Landed Cost" analysis and the ability to reduce burn without compromising speed.

  • Digital SCM: Proficiency in ERP systems (SAP/Oracle) and specialised Warehouse Management Systems (WMS).

  • Strategic Sourcing: Ability to balance "Just-in-Time" (JIT) delivery with the realities of Indian infrastructure.

  • Crisis Management: High resilience for handling supply disruptions (monsoons, strikes, or raw material shortages).

  • Negotiation & Influence: Strong "street-smart" negotiation skills to manage diverse stakeholders—from blue-collar workers to C-suite executives.
