About Role

For a large Indian Company based in Mumbai, the DGM/GM – Human Resources is a high-impact leadership role. Job Description:

The DGM/GM – HR acts as a strategic partner to the business units, ensuring that the people strategy directly fuels the company’s commercial growth. Reporting to the CHRO or Director – HR, you will oversee the entire employee lifecycle for a large, diverse workforce.

  • Manage employee grievances, engagement, retention, and performance management systems to ensure a positive work environment.

  • Develop and implement effective HR policies and procedures to align with business objectives.

  • Conduct regular audits to identify areas for improvement in employee relations, retention, and attrition management.

  • Collaborate with senior leadership to develop strategies for talent acquisition, development, and succession planning.

  • Ensure compliance with labor laws and regulations by maintaining accurate records and documentation.

Core Responsibility:
  • Strategic HR Planning: Design and implement HR frameworks that align with the company's 3–5 year expansion plans.

  • Talent Acquisition & Branding: Lead high-volume and leadership hiring, while building a strong "Employer Brand" in the competitive Mumbai talent market.

  • Performance & Rewards: Drive the Annual Appraisal cycle (PMS), ensuring a meritocratic culture and competitive benchmarking of compensation.

  • Change Management & OD: Lead initiatives related to culture building, post-merger integration, or structural reorganisations.

  • Employee Relations & Compliance: Ensure 100% adherence to Indian Labour Laws (POSH, Gratuity, ESIC) and manage union relationships if applicable.

  • Digital HR Transformation: Overhaul legacy systems by implementing modern HRMS (e.g., Darwinbox, SuccessFactors) to drive data-backed decision-making.

Job Specification:
  • Location: Mumbai (Corporate Office); may require travel to regional offices or plant sites in Maharashtra.

  • Experience: DGM/GM: 12–15 years of core HR experience.

  • Reporting To: CHRO

  • Salary Range: ₹30 Lakhs to ₹35 Lakhs (Fixed) + Performance Bonuses.

Qualifications:
  • Mandatory Education: MBA / PGDM in HR from a premier Tier-1/Tier-2 institute (e.g., TISS, XLRI, SCMHRD, or JBIMS).

  • Law Background (Optional): A degree in Law (LLB) is highly valued in Indian companies for handling complex employee relations.

  • Domain Expertise: Proven track record in managing a workforce of 1,000+ employees in a high-pressure environment.

Essential Skills:
  • Stakeholder Influence: Ability to manage "Promoter" expectations and navigate the hierarchy of an Indian family-managed or listed business.

  • Commercial Acumen: Understanding of business P&L to ensure HR initiatives (like variable pay or headcount) are financially viable.

  • Conflict Resolution: High emotional intelligence to handle grievances and disciplinary actions in a culturally sensitive manner.

  • Analytical Mindset: Ability to use HR Analytics to predict attrition and identify "high-potential" (HiPo) employees.
