About Role

For an Assistant Vice President (AVP) – Finance in a Mumbai-based Indian company, the role is a critical "Number 2" to the CFO or VP Finance. In the Mumbai market—the financial heart of India—this role demands high-speed execution, deep knowledge of Ind-AS (Indian Accounting Standards), and the ability to manage complex banking and investor relationships.


Job Description:

The AVP Finance will lead the core financial operations of the company, ensuring fiscal discipline, accurate reporting, and strategic capital management. You will bridge the gap between transactional accounting and high-level financial strategy. To manage the financial operations of the organisation, ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and reliability of financial reporting.


  • Management of the preparation and presentation of accurate and timely financial statements, and other accounting records in accordance with the relevant accounting standards, rules and regulations.

  • Support in identification, assessment, and mitigation of financial risks, and report on these financial risks to senior colleagues.

  • Development and maintenance of a robust system of internal controls to safeguard assets, ensure that there is no fraudulent misreporting, and ensure the accuracy of financial data, including regular assessment of the effectiveness of internal controls addressing any weaknesses or gaps. .

  • Development and implementation of up-to-date financial policies and procedures to ensure consistent and effective financial practices across the organisation.

  • Management of the selection, implementation, and maintenance of financial systems and software applications, including collaboration with IT colleagues to integrate financial systems with other enterprise systems.

  • Preparation and submission of statutory and regulatory reports to authorities, and provision of support to other departments in their preparation and review of regulatory reports.

  • Coordination with external auditors and regulatory authorities in support of audits and examinations.

 

Core Responsibility:
  • Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A): Lead the annual budgeting process, monthly rolling forecasts, and variance analysis to provide actionable insights to the Board.

  • Corporate Treasury: Manage working capital, optimise cash flows, and maintain relationships with Mumbai’s top-tier banks for debt syndication or credit lines.

  • Statutory & Tax Compliance: Oversee GST filings, Direct Tax (Income Tax/TDS) assessments, and ensure 100% adherence to MCA (Ministry of Corporate Affairs) guidelines.

  • Audit Management: Act as the primary point of contact for Big 4 or top-tier statutory and internal auditors to ensure timely closure of financials.

  • Internal Controls (IFC): Strengthen internal financial controls and SOPs to prevent leakages and ensure data integrity across the ERP.

  • Strategic Support: Assist the CFO in fundraising (Equity/Debt), M&A due diligence, and specialized financial modeling for new business ventures.


Job Specification:
  • Location: Mumbai (Corporate offices in BKC).

  • Experience: 12–15 years of post-qualification experience, with at least 3–5 years in a Senior Manager or AGM role.

  • Reporting To: CFO

  • Salary Benchmarks (Mumbai) Range: ₹50 Lakhs to ₹60 Lakhs (Fixed) + Performance Bonus.


Qualifications:
  • Mandatory: Chartered Accountant (CA) is the industry standard for this level in Indian companies.

  • Preferred: An additional MBA (Finance) from a premier institute (IIM/JBIMS/SPJIMR) or CFA is a major advantage for strategic roles.

  • Tech Stack: Proficiency in SAP (FICO), Oracle, or Tally Prime, along with advanced Microsoft Excel and BI tools (Power BI/Tableau).


Essential Skills:
  • Ind-AS Expertise: Deep technical command over Indian Accounting Standards and Schedule III of the Companies Act.

  • Banking Acumen: Ability to negotiate interest rates, LCs (Letters of Credit), and bank guarantees with institutional lenders.

  • Stakeholder Diplomacy: Skill in presenting financial "health reports" to aggressive Promoters or demanding Investors.

  • Commercial Hardness: A "gatekeeper" mindset to scrutinize costs and improve the company's EBITDA margins.

  • Leadership: Experience in managing a team of 15–20+ finance professionals (Accountants, Tax Managers, and Analysts).
